dynamic news website

the offside line

Quality online newspaper covering all levels of Scottish rugby with match reports and in-depth analysis from Scotland’s leading rugby journalists.

When I was first introduced to The Offside Line, it was a fledgeling blog with low visibility and few visitors. Today it has become the go-to website for all things Scottish rugby.

webporty worked with the client to re-build the website and re-brand, introducing revenue channels with banner advertising and supporter subscriptions. We have worked hard to quadruple site visitors year on year for the first two years.

The website was set up by some of Scotland’s best and most experienced rugby journalists, who had seen coverage of the game they love rapidly erode as the big Scottish newspapers gave less space to the game. They were not prepared to see rugby in Scotland suppressed in this way.

We have worked hard to increase visitors year on year, using social media channels, email and push notifications. We also introduced targeted Facebook advertising to grow the readership.

All new stories are automatically submitted to Google News as structured data (where they compete favourably with BBC coverage) and posted automatically to Facebook, Twitter LinkedIn and The Offside Line app.

We expect three million page views this season 2019 – 2020.

The Offside Line is now the most-read rugby rag in Scotland with 250k page views per month. It has developed into a burgeoning business as it continues to grow in readership, subscribers, advertisers and reputation.

what the client says:

“John has been a godsend. His experience, confidence, eloquence and common-sense has been invaluable in the constant race to be ahead of the game.”
